This process applies to students placed on academic recess or dismissal under the Academic Standing for Undergraduate Students policy. It does not apply to dismissals related to student conduct or behavior.
Students placed on academic recess or dismissal may appeal to the college of their primary major to return to MSU before completing the required time away. This early return is called reinstatement.
Submitting an appeal does not guarantee approval. Appeals are reviewed by the college’s designee, with decisions based on compelling circumstances. The Office of the Registrar maintains records of approved reinstatements and the reasons for those decisions.
Students who complete the minimum time away as required under the academic recess or dismissal policy may return in accordance with Readmission after Academic Recess or Dismissal.
