University Advising is a unit within Undergraduate Education that serves all the academic functions for Exploratory Preference ad Exploring Business Preference majors through 56 credit hours. Many students come to the university uncertain about a preferred area of academic interest. Students choose to be an exploratory preference major if they would like time to explore major options across campus. Students who enter exploratory business preference expressed an interest in one of our seven college of business majors and will need to proceed through a competitive secondary admission process to enter the college, however University Advising will continue to expose students to a variety of business related and adjacent majors that allow students to succeed in fields and specialties they would have not otherwise explored. Other students find their academic interests shift or expand as they are introduced to the many and varied academic experiences associated with attendance at the university. The Exploratory Preference and Exploring Business Preference major options allows students to investigate the wide variety of majors available at Michigan State University. University Advising advisors support students in discovering their interests, visualizing major opportunities, and designing academic paths to success. With the assistance of this advising teams’ students are required to make a degree declaration decision by the time they reach 56 credit hours.
