Additional Major in German

This option is designed to encourage students to combine a major in German with a major in another field such as international relations, political science, English, another foreign language, or engineering.  Students electing this option must meet the requirements of the College of Arts and Letters for the Bachelor of Arts degree and must complete the following requirements for the major in German:

  1. The German courses listed in items 3. a. (1) through (4) under the heading Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts Degree in German above, plus one additional course of at least 3 credits, to meet the requirement of 28 credits. Additional majors are also expected to participate in a study abroad program as listed in item 3. a. (6) above.

Requirement 7: Additional Major Distribution Requirement
Additional Major Distribution Requirement: 34 credits from German electives. Additional crs in GRM courses 250 and above, excluding GRM400, to meet the requirement of at least 34 but not more than 40 crs in courses in the major.

Requirement 8: College - Arts and Letters - European Studies Discipline
College - Arts and Letters - European Studies Discipline: 12 credits from a European Studies cognate. One 300 or 400 level course of at least 3 credits must be included. The courses must be approved by the student's academic advisor.

Requirement 9: College - Arts and Letters - Non Arts and Letters Cognate
College - Arts and Letters - Non Arts and Letters Cognate: 12 credits from Courses in a cognate. One 300-400 level course of at least 3 credits must be included between the Open Cognate and the Non Arts & Letters Cognate. Both the cognate and the courses must be approved by the student's academic advisor.

College Distribution: 30 credits from courses at the 300 level and above.

College - Arts and Letters - Second Language: 1 course from a second year foreign language course demonstrating competency in a foreign language.
