Stabilize, manage, and improve core technology services like network infrastructure and data storage to support the university’s growth.
As technology advances, the volume of data on the MSU network increases along with the need for secure information access, management, and storage. IT Services oversees the university’s wired and wireless network, data centers, identity and access management, and mass storage. The MSU ID Office handles MSU NetID and Spartan Card activities and support. Our organization is also the steward of technology infrastructure for central academic and business information, associated policies and business practices, data stewardship, and university archives.
Encourage active learning and scholarship by students and faculty through instruction, study, research, and engagement.
Technology solutions support instructors in courses, student success, and innovative teaching and learning methods and models. IT Services supports campus computer labs and technology classrooms, technology room design, audiovisual services, conferencing technologies, test proctoring services, and collaborative technology tools. IT Services also offers instructional design and pedagogy course consultation, workshops, and best practices.
Advance MSU’s culture of high performance among students, faculty, and staff.
To support a culture of high performance, the MSU IT Service Desk provides technology support for the MSU community on the phone, online, and in person. The MSU Computer Store – Help and Repair provides educational discounts on hardware and software, campus licensing, and computer repair and warranty services. IT Services is also focused on IT project and service management, as well as planning for future systems, tools, and technology trends. These processes help us prioritize and invest in new projects that are imperative to MSU’s progress as a top-tier research university.
Provide a security framework with standards and initiatives to help protect institutional data, technology, systems, and resources.
Research projects, intellectual property, student and health information, and systems that interact with confidential data require added security protections. IT Services and the Chief Information Security Officer oversee network and system security through university initiatives like two-factor authentication, vulnerability management, incident response, established IT standards, and educational campaigns. The office also develops and maintains IT policies supporting MSU’s integrated instructional, research, and public service mission while maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and security of data.

Harnessing data to inform and shape decisions is imperative for MSU. IT Services develops and maintains systems and data to sustain core university support and academic administration functions such as student records, course enrollment, financial aid, student billing, student payment processing, university financial records, payment card processing, human resources, and alumni/donor records. We also support institutional data asset collection and integration with different systems and tools across campus.
