On rare occasions, a deceased student who is ineligible for a posthumous degree may be recognized for his/her academic work by means of receiving a Mark of Achievement certificate.
With the support of the academic unit, a request is initiated by the student’s college dean. Undergraduate and graduate students who are in good academic standing and in the judgment of the college dean may be recommended for a Mark of Achievement. The college dean shall provide a recommendation along with a verification of the student’s academic standing to the Vice Provost of Enrollment and Academic Strategic Planning for review and recommendation and then to the Provost for approval. The Provost shall notify the Registrar and the Mark of Achievement shall be mailed or delivered to the academic unit for distribution to the family.
